Detailed information

Történelmi Emlékhely Zalaegerszegen

In Zalaegerszeg, there is a historically significant memorial site established in 1927. This cemetery primarily serves as a place of remembrance for Italian soldiers who perished during World War I. More than 1600 soldiers, who served in the Austro-Hungarian army or were citizens of other nations, are buried here. Beneath the marble crosses, you will find the remains of Italian soldiers, while the monuments depicting soldiers in helmets mark the resting places of heroes from other nationalities. This site holds deep historical significance for both the city and the international community. The cemetery was once frequently visited by local residents who came to pay their respects to the deceased. The area also contains Jewish graves, which symbolize the historical diversity of the region. The preservation and maintenance of this memorial site are of utmost importance.
