The Csepel cemetery opened its gates to the residents of Csepel, then an independent municipality, in 1918, although the first burial did not take place until 1920. The cemetery was expanded 69 years later, in 1989, by 1.1 hectares, reaching its current area of 12.4 hectares.

The chapel and the old mortuary of the cemetery were demolished in 1970. The new mortuary was built in 1975, based on the designs of Sándor Rési and Imre Balázs Szily – and this building still welcomes grieving families today.

The cemetery is an integral part of the Csepel community, serving as a final resting place for generations. The double row of lime trees lining the main entrance, the well-maintained green spaces, and the orderly paths all contribute to the peaceful and respectful atmosphere of the site.
